Resources for Faculty & Researchers

Lehigh University’s College of Arts and Sciences offers faculty an extensive range of research resources designed to advance scholarship across a variety of disciplines. The college is equipped with cutting-edge laboratories, advanced technology, and specialized research centers that support work in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. In addition, faculty have access to comprehensive support services, including help with grant writing, securing research funding, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Lehigh is dedicated to providing its research community with the tools and environment necessary to drive innovative and impactful scholarly work.

Research Support

Lehigh University uses a decentralized model for research support, giving faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences direct access to a dedicated team. This team includes professional staff, both at the College-level and Department-level, who help manage research administrative activities and act as liaisons with Lehigh’s Central Research Offices (ORSP, OVPR), making it easier for faculty to focus on their work.

Please reach out to Dan DiGiacomo at djd324@lehigh.com to get started, and if you have any questions.

If you are inquiring about funding from corporations or foundations, please reach out to Chris Hellstrom (Arts & Humanities) at chh522@lehigh.edu and Matthew Mattern (STEM) at mqm5@lehigh.edu

Let’s get this answer from Research Integrity (Matt Dohn)

  • Identify your departmental/college resources who will be supporting you in developing your research proposals - Dan DiGiacomo (djd324@lehigh.edu)
  • Request to be affiliated with Lehigh University in any relevant sponsor systems (grants.gov, research.gov, eRA Commons, etc.) in advance of your proposal.
  • When considering submitting a proposal, review the ORSP Proposal Submission Policy requesting receipt of fully complete proposals a minimum of five working days prior to the agency deadline.
  • Review LIRA: System Training and Education page to learn how to initiate a proposal in LIRA and begin the development and submission process.
  • Create proposal in LIRA.
  • Review the Research Essentials Handbook and certify completion utilizing this online form. Completion of this review is required prior to your first proposal submission for sponsored research or activities at Lehigh.
  • Reach out to, or have your departmental administrator reach out to, your CGS (research.cc.lehigh.edu/contract-and-grant-specialist-assignments) to discuss any questions, concerns or timeline issues. If you are transferring an award, be sure to provide the name and contact information of the responsible sponsored research administrator at the institution previously responsible for the award.

You will receive assistance from your college/department level staff to create the LIRA record and develop a finalized budget template and budget justification and answer all necessary information in the LIRA record (additional information, compliance questions, overall proposal information, etc.).

The proposal will be sent to Department Review for department chair approval. There are four key areas that the department chair will be reviewing:

  • Proposal Scope (Budget)
  • Personnel Effort
  • Equipment (if applicable)
  • Cost Share Committed (if applicable)

Once approved by your department chair, the proposal will then be sent to Specialist Review where it will be reviewed by your Contract and Grant Specialist to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and funding opportunity requirements.

After the CGS Specialist Review, the PI will be able to review the full proposal and it will then be submitted to the sponsor for review.

Please review ORSP’s Proposal Submission Policy which outlines the 5-business-day internal deadline and how to be in compliance.
